SWEETWATER, Fla. – Sweetwater police say a “porch pirate” was caught, arrested and taken to jail in November after a man caught him stealing a package from his doorstep. They say he was released from jail and, nine days later, was back to stealing packages.
In a news release on Friday, police said Edwin Bladimir Obando-Ibarra’s second arrest came one day after stealing a package on Dec. 3.

They said the 19-year-old’s first known theft — and arrest — happened on Nov. 24.
In that incident, police said Obando-Ibarra, of west Miami-Dade, was seen on camera getting up from sitting on a curb and grabbing a man’s parcel from his apartment at 100 SW 110th Ave.
Police said the victim followed Obando-Ibarra in an attempt to get his package back and called 911. Officers subsequently took him into custody nearby in the 11000 block of Southwest Fifth Street, arresting him on a petit theft charge.
Then, on Dec. 3, police said Obando-Ibarra stole an Amazon package containing two toys, valued at $11, from an apartment at 11195 SW First St.
Police said they recognized him from surveillance video and saw him walking in the same area the next day while wearing the same clothes, taking him into custody on another petit theft charge.
Obando-Ibarra, a Nicaraguan national, then bonded out of jail again.
