The pursuit ended early Sunday morning along Northwest 103rd Street near Ninth Avenue after the Florida Highway Patrol received reports of an illegal street takeover, according to FHP Lt. Alex Camacho.

At approximately 2:24 a.m., FHP troopers working an intersection takeover detail in the area saw a black Dodge Charger SRT without a tag enter the center of the intersection and perform donuts, screeching its tires.

5 p.m. report:

Authorities say the chase began when troopers identified the Charger from a previous intersection takeover in northwest Miami-Dade, documented in a video posted to FHPā€™s Instagram.

During the incident, authorities said the front-seat passenger, later identified as 25-year-old Christian Fernandez was hanging outside the passenger window, along with 20-year-olds Jeremy Alvarado and Isaiah Fredlain Dorcely, who were in the backseat of the vehicle. The car left the area after completing the stunt, according to an arrest report.

Shortly after, FHP issued a ā€œbe-on-the-lookoutā€ notice for the Dodge Charger, investigators said.

While en route to a home near the 1600 block of Northwest 95th Street regarding the same takeover, an FHP trooper spotted the Charger parked at a business with four males around it. While waiting for additional units, the four males got into the vehicle, which then drove north on Northwest 17th Avenue.

Authorities said the Dodge Charger continued north, approaching the intersection at Northwest 17th Avenue and Northwest 103rd Street, before making an eastbound turn onto 103rd Street at high speed.

FHP activated their emergency lights and sirens, but the vehicle accelerated and changed lanes from the center to the left in an attempt to bypass the patrol car, the report stated.

Troopers then conducted a successful ā€œprecision immobilization technique,ā€ causing the Dodge Charger to leave the roadway and strike a traffic control sign, disabling it.

After exiting their patrol vehicle, authorities saw Dorcely leave the car and run toward a residence near the 900 block of Northwest 103rd Street. He was eventually was apprehended and taken into custody, according to FHP.

Another trooper opened the rear right door of the Charger and saw the driver, 23-year-old Samuel Orvil, exit the driverā€™s seat and move to the back seat, according to the report. FHP said Orvil and Alvarado were removed from the vehicle and arrested. Fernandez was also taken into custody, authorities confirmed.

Within minutes, Camacho said FHP troopers had arrested all occupants, placing them in handcuffs on the ground.

Carlo Joseph, a resident who lives across from the crash site, described the chaos. ā€œIt was, like, three in the morning,ā€ Joseph said. ā€œShe [his wife] called me ā€¦ so many police right there ā€¦ something happened over there.ā€

FHP Trooper Joe Sanchez highlighted the risks of these stunts.

ā€œThese intersection takeovers are dangerous,ā€ he said. ā€œTheyā€™re dangerous not only to the people driving the vehicles but also to those participating in these events.ā€

Jail records show that Orvil is facing one count of fleeing and eluding police after ignoring lights and siren.

Records also show Alvarado and Dorcely are each facing charges of illegal possession of a firearm with an altered ID, openly carrying a weapon, unlawful assembly to commit a breach of peace, and obstructing a highway. They were also previously charged with drag racing on a highway as passengers before July 1 in an unrelated case.

Fernandez, meanwhile, is facing charges of obstructing a highway, unlawful assembly to commit a breach of peace, and drag racing on a highway in a separate case prior to July 1.

The total bond amount set for Alvarado, Dorcely and Fernandez, who were passengers in the incident, was set at $3,650. All of the suspects involved in the case have since posted bond.
