Miami-Dade police said the victim and 43-year-old Dunier Aguilar Garcia, of Miami Gardens, were in a relationship for six years, lived together during that time, and share a child.
According to an arrest report, the incident began with an argument that turned physical when the victim told Aguilar Garcia she was leaving his home near the 5200 block of Northwest 181st Terrace shortly before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The report stated that Aguilar Garcia grabbed the victim by the hair and demanded her jewelry. Fearing for her safety, the victim complied, according to police.
As the situation escalated, investigators said Aguilar Garcia forcibly took the victim’s cellphone, prompting her to flee the residence in search of help.
That’s when police said Aguilar Garcia pursued the victim, causing her to fall near a neighbor’s home. Witnesses reported seeing him drag the victim by her leg before fleeing the scene when a neighbor approached, according to the report.
Police said officers responded to the scene and apprehended Aguilar Garcia at his residence. The victim positively identified him through a photograph, but he declined to speak with investigators, authorities said.
Police have not released a motive for the alleged attack.
Jail records show Aguilar Garcia is facing one count each of strongarm robbery and battery with domestic violence.
As of Wednesday, he is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
