‘Some Like It Hot’ showing off intricate dance numbers at Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami

MIAMI – Get ready for topsy-turvy good time!

With high energy singing and dancing, “Some Like it Hot” is taking center stage at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami.

The award-winning musical tells the story of two musicians, Jerry and Joe, who witness a mob hit and then are forced to disguise themselves as women, Daphne and Josephine. They then join an all-female band touring the country during the Prohibition Era. What could possibly go wrong?

“People who know nothing about this show, I am so envious for you! Because it really takes you by surprise,” said Matt Loehr, who plays Joe/Josephine.

If you think the storyline is complicated, wait until you see the intricate dance numbers.

“Tap was not my ministry! The dancing, singing, acting has been an experience, but has been so redemptive and I love doing the show every night,” said Tavis Kordell, who plays Jerry/Daphne.

Going from men to women is also a carefully choreographed process with numerous costume changes.

“30 seconds, 15 seconds, we change on stage, we stage off stage,” said Kordell.

“Now we’ve really got it under our belt,” added Loehr.

The two leads also now have some sympathy for women after having to wear heels night after night!

“I’m so sorry, I didn’t know for so long,” joked Loehr about the difficulty in having to learn to dance in heels.

At the heart of this comedy though is a story of acceptance, love, and being true to yourself.

“It’s something we need right now in the world. People walk around with so many different things going on. We just need to love and accept each other and respect each other. I believe that is the message we try to convey as a cast,” said Kordell.

“Some Like it Hot” is currently playing at the Arsht Center until December 8. Ticket information can be found at: www.arshtcenter.org
