‘No organs hit’: Father of teen shot in southwest Miami-Dade knows it could’ve been much worse

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A South Florida father is grateful that he didn’t lose his son after a shooting occurred over the holiday weekend.

Donald Moss’ 17-year-old son Christian Houston was shot not far from their southwest Miami-Dade County home around 7 p.m. on Nov. 30.

Police said that’s when they received a Shot Spotter alert in the area of Southwest 138th Court and 262nd Lane.

“He didn’t even know he was hit, he just felt that his arm was heavy,” said Moss.

Moss said Houston and his cousin were walking home after hanging out with some friends when the shots rang out.

“He’s a teenage boy just walking and he heard shots,” said Moss. “It just so happens he got hit. When he got home, he saw blood dripping, so he knew. I took his jacket off, I got a towel over the wound when I saw the blood I’m thinking he got hit in the heart.”

Police said when they arrived at the scene they found 10 spent shell casings.

The victim was suffering from a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

“An ambulance came and rushed to hospital,” said Moss. “When we got there the doctor said it went out the shoulder. No organs hit.”

Moss said Houston is a good student who plays football, and that despite the shooting, the teen is in good spirits.

“It’s up and down,” said Moss. “When the pain kicks in he knows it’s real, but he’s still a jokester mind.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
