MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The holiday season is officially underway in Miami-Dade County, where the community gathered Monday night for a festive tree lighting ceremony at the Little Haiti Cultural Center.
The event transformed the cultural hub into a Christmas wonderland, offering a celebration filled with Haitian flavor and holiday cheer.
6 p.m. report:
“We’ve had a really rough year — very unstable, very unsettling,” said Sandy Dorsainvil, one of the event’s organizers. “It’s going to be really nice to just focus on family and friends and the security of knowing that the holidays stay the holidays.”
Among the attractions were Haitian hot chocolate, a milk and cookie station, and cremas, a traditional Haitian holiday drink comparable to coquito in Hispanic cultures. Organizers offered both spiked and non-alcoholic versions, ensuring everyone could enjoy the festive treat.
The tree, fully adorned and awaiting its lighting, stood as the centerpiece of the evening, symbolizing unity and resilience in a community eager to celebrate together. The event ran from 6 to 8 p.m., bringing locals out to revel in the holiday spirit.
As the lights illuminated the tree, the season officially began, offering a moment of joy and connection for those in Little Haiti.
