According to Homestead police, officers were dispatched to a “sexual offense reference” after receiving a report that a man inappropriately touched a minor just after 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, police spoke with the teenager’s mother who said that she was doing laundry at Sun Coin Laundry, located at 46 NW 8th St., when Medardo Hernandez sat next to her daughter and began to “fondle her over her clothing.”

The victim told police that while she was waiting inside the laundromat, Hernandez sat next to her and “fondled the inside of her thighs and also groped her vagina,” the report stated.

Investigators said the victim quickly grabbed her phone and recorded both the moment Hernandez fondled her and her attempts to remove his hands from her body.

The victim told police that Hernandez began to grope his penis over his clothing as he attempted to grab and pull her hand, according to the report.

Shortly after reviewing the victim’s cellphone footage, police said they detained Hernandez after he was seen walking across the street.

Police said that after reading Hernandez his Miranda rights, they repeatedly questioned him about touching the victim. According to the report, he consistently denied any wrongdoing, even though the act was captured on cellphone video.

As of Monday, Hernandez was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
