Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, said the 17-year-old victim was walking with his 15-year-old cousin on the sidewalk when they heard the gunshots near Southwest 262 Street and 138 Avenue.

“He realized that he had been struck twice in the upper torso,” Rodriguez said.

The crime scene was in a pedestrian-friendly area next to a line of parked cars and between the Grace Homes/Bode, a new leasing community with two-story townhomes and well-kept lawns, and The Avenue at Naranja, a pristine apartment complex with a pool and a fitness center.

The victim and his cousin quickly ran home to relatives where Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel met the teenage boy injured and took him to the Jackson South Medical Center, at 9333 SW 152 St., where he remained on Sunday.

“Detectives are trying to interview the victim and trying to piece together everything, process the scene, and trying to get as much information as they can,” Rodriguez said about the ongoing investigation.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 to remain anonymous.
