A driver fled the Apple Creek community at West Sunrise Boulevard and Northwest 73 Avenue in Peart’s black Mercedes-Benz sports utility vehicle. The driver abandoned the SUV along West Sunrise Boulevard at Northwest 65 Avenue.

Detectives and relatives later identified the shooter behind the carjacking and a hit-and-run crash as Peart’s stepson. Plantation police officers and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies set up perimeters to search for the suspect, but an arrest had yet to be made on Sunday.

The medical examiner’s office removed Peart’s body from Apple Creek’s two-bedroom unit at 7081 West Sunrise Boulevard on Sunday morning. State records show Peart, also known by some friends as “Clay,” owned Beautiful Finishes, a business based in Lauderhill.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 to remain anonymous.
