MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on a busy South Florida highway.
It happened early Monday evening in the southbound lanes of I-95 in the area of Northwest 135th Street.
According to authorities, a woman driving in a black Lexus was shot at by someone in another vehicle.
The victim was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, police said.
11 p.m. report:
A bullet hole was seen in at least one window of the vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, which believes the shots came from another car. Investigators say the suspect vehicle may be a white Honda sedan.
Francisco Pisano, who lives just steps from the highway, said he heard screaming and saw a woman exit the car holding a baby shortly after returning home.
Police temporarily shut down the southbound lanes of I-95 in order to perform an investigation.
Investigators have not released information about a potential suspect or motive at this time.
The number of highway shootings in Florida has decreased in 2025 compared to 2024, according to FHP officials.
Lieutenant Alex Camacho, an FHP spokesman, stated that exact data on the decline is available through the department’s analysts, but obtaining it could take up to three weeks.
