Decision to drop charges against felons for voting illegally in 2020 reversed

MIAMI – Nearly two dozen felons who were accused of voting illegally in 2020 eventually had their charges dropped, but now, that decision has been reversed.

Ronald Miller never intended to vote illegally.

He said he felt redeemed when the charges were dropped for him and 18 other former felons, only to now hear an appeals court has reversed them back.

“They reversed the case,” said Miller. “How can they reverse something that’s right and make it something that’s wrong?”

Miller and others were all swept up two years ago in the state’s sting on felons who voted illegally in 2020, though none realized they were ineligible once the state sent them approved voter cards.

“They was wrong from the beginning,” said Miller. “They’re trying to screw me, they’re trying to screw other people.”

Miller learned of the reversal - that he’ll be charged all over again - and called Robert Wood, another former felon he met swept up in that raid.

Wood had been registered at a Walmart and approved by the state to vote. Now he’s facing renewed charges also that he intending to do wrong.

“I think it’s unfair,” said Wood. “If anything, they should have caught that and never sent the card out.”

Wood’s attorney has asked the Florida Supreme Court to review the reversal.
