Miami-Dade felon on probation faces over 50 charges including cyberstalking after chaotic police pursuit

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Court records showed a 41-year-old convicted felon who was arrested after a police chase that involved several car crashes faced over 50 charges on Sunday in Miami-Dade County.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections records, Kevin P. Prater was a drug offender on probation from Aug. 8, 2023, to Aug. 7, 2033, after a burglary conviction when he was driving a GMC Sonoma away from police on Wednesday in Miami-Dade.

According to Detective Andre Martin, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, Prater collided with both civilians’ cars and police cars near Southwest 41 Street and 72 Avenue and he showed “no regard for anyone’s safety, including his own father, who was a passenger in that vehicle.”

Homeland Security and MDPD were involved in the case. Inmate records show Miami-Dade correctional officers booked Prater shortly after 2:40 p.m., on Saturday, at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, and he remained there on Sunday morning.

In the pending case before the police pursuit, Prater faced 18 charges: Three counts of written threats to kill or cause bodily injury; three counts of aggravated stalking; three counts of aggravated stalking, harassing, or cyberstalking; three counts of cyber intimidation or threat; three counts of cyber intimidation or inciting violence; and three counts of possession of identification information used to harass.

In the pending case after the police pursuit, Prater faced 31 charges: Seven counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer; eight counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; aggravated assault on a person 65 or older; fleeing and eluding a police officer; seven counts of resisting an officer with violence to his person; and seven counts of resisting an officer without violence to his person.

The three warrant cases were for a probation violation, reckless driving, and a hold for the magistrate.
