Trae West and Nicole Zapetis co-own Big Dog Tackle, the store at 1440 North Federal Highway, in Pompano Beach, that the anti-social thief targeted.

The thief walked right into the rod section. Then he returned to eye the GoPro cameras. He was stuffing everything he could into his backpack.

4 p.m. report:

“I just had no fear and went right up to him and told him, ‘I want my merchandise back,’” Zapetis said adding that she locked the doors to trap him in the store before deputies arrived.

West and Zapetis decided to let him go when the thief became a threat. They did not want to become vigilantes; they also didn’t want to be victims. They have asked Gov. Ron DeSantis’s office for guidance.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
