South Florida animal rescue works to rehome pets displaced by storms, tornadoes

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. ā€“ When storms and tornadoes strike South Florida, itā€™s not just humans who lose everything ā€” pets are often left homeless as well.

Local animal rescue groups like Saving Sage Animal Rescue are stepping up to care for pets in need and find them new homes. Among those looking for a second chance are Mary and Marlon, two cuddly cats with heartbreaking stories.

ā€œThey went through Hurricane Milton, kind of like we did,ā€ said Jacey Birch, Local 10ā€²s animal advocate. ā€œTheir families lost everything in the tornado and were desperate to find them a safe place.ā€

Saving Sage Animal Rescue in South Florida is currently home to dozens of animals like Mary and Marlon. The organization not only provides shelter but also ensures all animals are sterilized before adoption to help curb the overpopulation problem in the region.

ā€œThere are way too many puppies being born on the streets of South Florida because of a lack of spaying and neutering,ā€ Birch said.

The rescue also has adorable Chihuahua puppies available for adoption.

ā€œYou never need to shop!ā€ Birch emphasized. ā€œJust adopt and save a life.ā€

For those looking to help, Saving Sage is actively seeking new pet parents and fosters. Their adoptable animals can be found by clicking here.
