MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – With the holiday shopping season almost here, Miami-Dade’s mayor, police director and incoming sheriff came together to talk safety Friday.
Police are launching their annual holiday crime initiative.
In a news conference at Dadeland Mall, they urged shoppers to avoid leaving packages visible in their vehicles and to use well-lit areas for safety.
“It gets dark very early,” Miami-Dade Sheriff-elect Rosie Cordero-Stutz said.
For online shopping, they recommended meeting in safe places like police station lobbies and cautioned against clicking on links from unknown senders.
Miami-Dade police will increase patrols, both uniformed and non-uniformed, in high-traffic areas.
Cordero-Stutz will take over county policing from the mayor in early January as Miami-Dade’s first elected sheriff in decades.
