Andres Rivera-Grass, 36, was arrested on Thursday following an investigation into a Nov. 16 shooting outside a business near the 2800 block of West Third Avenue in Hialeah, investigators said.

According to Hialeah police, the incident began around 3:30 p.m. when the victim was sitting near a bay door at the business and Rivera-Grass arrived in a black Cadillac, confronted the victim, and said “I’ll be back” in Spanish before returning to the scene and opening fire.

The victim sought cover, avoiding injury, as Rivera-Grass fled in an unknown direction, according to his arrest report. Investigators said they found multiple bullet impacts at the crime scene.

Detectives said the victim provided a sworn statement on Tuesday at the Hialeah Police Department, identifying Rivera-Grass, a former friend of several years, as the shooter. The victim also identified Rivera-Grass as the suspect from a single photograph presented by detectives, the report stated.

Initially, Rivera-Grass denied the allegations, claiming he was the victim of a shooting that day, authorities said.

However, additional surveillance footage obtained on Wednesday refuted his account, showing him driving a black Jeep Cherokee, firing at the unarmed victim and several others, and fleeing the scene, the report stated.

Authorities said Rivera-Grass was taken into custody on Thursday.

After being read his Miranda rights in Spanish, police said he waived them but maintained his denial of wrongdoing.

Detectives have not yet disclosed a motive for the shooting.

Jail records show Rivera-Grass is facing one count each of first-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon and illegal discharge of a firearm from a vehicle.

As of Friday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”

Local 10 News has requested surveillance video of the alleged shooting incident from Hialeah police.
