MIAMI – A man visiting Miami from out of state is being accused of committing a violent attack and rape on a senior in the city’s Allapattah neighborhood Thursday.

Leon Alonzo Norman, 54, of Savannah, Georgia, is now facing three felony charges in South Florida: kidnapping, sexual battery and battery on a person 65 or older.

According to police, the attack happened at around 3:45 a.m. in the area of Northwest Seventh Avenue and 15th Street.

Police said Norman went up to the 71-year-old woman, a stranger, and “grabbed and pulled her by the arm and told her to be quiet.”

An arrest report states that the woman said “Please, no” and began crying. But police said Norman held her arm, forced her pants off and raped her.

Authorities said two witnesses saw the attack.

Police said Norman, in an interview with detectives, claimed that he saw the victim by Camillus House and that she followed him around the corner, “crying and pleading” to have sex with him.

But police said surveillance video instead showed a forceful attack of an elderly woman “scared and in shock.”

Jail records show Norman is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Friday afternoon. They list him as refusing a bond court appearance and a bond had yet to be set.
