Miami-Dade police said officers with the Homestead Police Department were dispatched to the Nexx Motel, located at 841 N. Krome Ave., at approximately 11:16 p.m. Wednesday after receiving reports of an altercation.
Authorities said when officers arrived, they discovered an unresponsive man at the scene.
Police said medics airlifted the man to Jackson South Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead despite extensive lifesaving efforts.
Preliminary findings by detectives from the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Homicide Bureau suggest that the incident began as an argument between the man and his wife while they were inside a vehicle outside the motel. The disagreement reportedly turned physical, and during the altercation, the man became unresponsive, according to investigators.
Police said the man’s wife and hotel security both contacted emergency services after realizing the severity of the situation.
As part of the investigation, MDPD Detective Andre Martin confirmed that the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death. He also said the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office is also reviewing the case in its entirety.
Authorities have not released the identities of the man nor his wife. No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning, and it remains unclear whether charges will be filed.
