MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police responded to the scene of several vehicle accidents Wednesday, which they say were the result of a “criminal investigation.”
Police confirmed that the vehicle accidents occurred in the area of Southwest 41st Street and 72nd Avenue and later disclosed there was a police pursuit.
According to Detective Andre Martin, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, the suspect who was trying to get away was Kevin Paul Prater.
6 p.m. report:
The convicted felon was wanted for extortion and stalking. Records show he is on probation until 2033.
Miami-Dade police said they were investigating Prater for stalking and extortion. As a reaction to that investigation, they say Prater made threats to kill a police officer, and when police attempted to take him into custody Wednesday, he took off.
“With no regard for anyone’s safety, including his own father, who was a passenger in that vehicle,” said Martin.
The man’s father could be seen in video pleading for his son to stop before he eventually jumped out of the truck.
And that’s when he desperately tried to find another way out after getting stuck in traffic.
“By ramming into several civilian vehicles as well as marked police cars,” said Martin.
Prater now faces four new charges thanks to the attempted getaway.
Police said he was not seriously injured and thankfully nobody was injured as a result of the incident.
