MIAMI – In July of last year, police raced to a Miami home after receiving reports of a man firing a gun into the air.
Local 10 News has now obtained exclusive footage from that night.
It happened outside an apartment complex located off of Northwest 79th Street and 10th Avenue.
6 p.m. report:
In the video, a Miami police officer confronts an armed man accused of shooting a weapon into the air in broad daylight.
Instead of listening to the officer’s commands, the suspect will not stop and is seen running away into an apartment building.
The suspect has since been identified as 37-year-old Christian Labaut.
Neighbors said Labaut was shooting his rifle recklessly to celebrate Florida’s permitless weapon carry law that had gone into effect just days prior.
Labaut did not follow commands and the officer opened fire.
Labaut was struck multiple times and was hospitalized for two months before being booked into jail.
