Pregnant Broward mother found stabbed to death was frequent domestic violence victim, records show

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Years before Delfina Perez Chilel was found stabbed to death, court documents show that she was a victim of repeated domestic violence.

According to court documents, in 2016 her husband, Victor Chavez, “was charged with Aggravated Battery on a Pregnant Female after he stuck his girlfriend with the blade of a knife while she was 7 months pregnant.”

The case was dropped after the “victim did not want to prosecute the defendant.”

In 2017, Chavez was once again charged with domestic battery, but once again, the case was not prosecuted, “due to the failure of the witness to appear.”

Fast forward to Nov. 12, the couple now has a 9-year-old and an 8-year-old.

The victim was also 20 weeks pregnant.

Hallandale Beach police got a call from a daycare saying that the children were not picked up by their mother.

They broke down the door and inside they found Perez Chilel stabbed time and time again.

Chaves was also found unresponsive. He was taken to the hospital, where he survived and according to police left a suicide note

Now two children will grow up without a mom, with their dad in jail.

Police stress the importance of reporting domestic violence in the aftermath of the horrible incident. The Broward County Domestic Violence Hotline can be reached at 954-761-1133.
