HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A grieving mother returned to the scene where her son lost his life just a few hours prior.
Yvelouse Chery said her son, Brenden Francois, deserved so much better, and she has questions for police.
“I want justice for my son,” she said.
Francois was only 23 years old when he was gunned down Monday night off Southwest Eighth Street near Sixth Court in Homestead.
Chery said she saw him shortly before it happened. He went to her house with a girl she never met before.
She gave them dinner and eventually, they walked over to a corner store when something went wrong.
Francios was killed on his way back home.
Police said a 16-year-old girl was also grazed by a bullet.
It’s just the latest in a string of shootings in the area.
First in June, a homestead mother was killed by her daughter’s ex-boyfriend, according to police.
Later, 15-year-old Damarion Bailey was shot in Florida City.
There was another shooting at the Park Motel in Homestead, and then, most recently, the shooting death of 9-year-old Antavious Scott in Florida City, shaking this community to its core.
Francois’ stepfather was also gunned down in the same area back in 2019.
Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
