Jury set to decide man’s fate in Miami murder trial

Suspect claims self-defense

MIAMI – Closing arguments were held on Monday in a Miami murder trial.

The jury will now have to decide whether they believe Courtney Britton acted in self-defense or not in a murder and attempted murder from 2021.

Britton is facing a murder charge in the death of Joshua Caraballo and attempted murder of Robert Fulton.

Earlier this week, Britton testified he was robbed of a gold chain. After, he retrieved his gun and opened fire.

In closing arguments, prosecutor Johnathan Borst asked the jury if the shooting was necessary, telling the jury that it was not a justified shooting and providing another demonstration of how far he says Britton walked to get his gun.

Britton was emotional throughout court proceedings Monday, often crying and rocking back and forth.

His lawyer, Dameka Davis, told the jury Britton was in fear for his life.

The jury will now deliberate Britton’s fate.

They were reminded that they can convict Britton of manslaughter instead of second degree murder, which carries a lower penalty of up to 30 years in prison.
