Gunman takes stand, claiming self-defense in Miami murder trial

MIAMI ā€“ It was a dramatic day of testimony Friday in the Courtney Britton murder trial.

Britton is accused in the shooting death of Joshua Caraballo and attempted murder of Robert Fulton in April of 2021.

The shooting happened after Britton says he was robbed of his gold chain.

He took the stand Friday and was questioned about that night, telling the jury his account.

Attorney Johnathan Borst pressed Britton about walking to his car to retrieve a gun following the robbery.

Britton told the jury he was in fear for his life, shooting a warning shot with no intention to kill anyone, but the state says he was irresponsible.

At one point during his testimony, Britton began to cry.

Brittonā€™s lawyer, Dameka Davis, questioned her client as to why he fired his weapon.

Britton said it was self-defense but the state says there were other reasonable options in response to the robbery.
