MIAMI – Severe turbulence forced a transatlantic flight bound for Miami to return to Europe on Thursday.
Those passengers finally arrived in South Florida on Friday.
Video captured the terrifying moments a Scandinavian Airlines flight encountered severe turbulence as passengers were jolted out of their seats and debris scattered about the cabin.
5 p.m. report:
The mid-flight flight occurred Thursday afternoon as the flight traveled from Stockholm, Sweden to Miami.
ABC News confirmed the flight dropped more than 8,000 feet above Greenland when it hit turbulence. The pilot decided to make a U-turn, rerouting to Copenhagen, Denmark.
The airline said 254 passengers were onboard the aircraft with no serious injuries reported among passengers and crew members.
According to the airline, the crew made the unusual decision to fly back to Europe saying they do “not have the necessary facilities and staff for this level of inspection in MIA.”
Meanwhile, the airline provided overnight accommodations for the passengers in Copenhagen.
