MIAMI – Maybe he should have tried stealing a belt first.
According to arrest reports, Miami police have cracked the case of a man who’s burglarized businesses in the city’s Little Havana neighborhood, including a Subway restaurant where a surveillance camera captured an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction as he stole the restaurant’s cash register.
Police say Yoel Borges, 51, was donning a shirt that said “Be kind” as he committed the crime. They said he was caught with his pants down as he reached over the counter at the chain’s location at 2962 SW Eighth St., giving the camera a full moon before he made off with the cash register on Monday.
He had smashed his way into the store at around 2 a.m.
Authorities said he was working with a getaway driver, 64-year-old Orlando Fernandez.
Police said the getaway vehicle, a Chevrolet Suburban, was registered to a car dealership in Homestead and had a GPS tracker on it.
Authorities said they were able to track the vehicle down to the 1600 block of Southwest 27th Avenue and took Fernandez into custody.
They said he volunteered that Borges was at the Publix a few blocks south; officers went there and took him into custody as well.
Both men are now facing multiple felony charges, including burglary.
They remained jailed in Miami-Dade County as of Friday evening.
