Authorities said counterfeit stickers, which may display a legitimate mobile app logo, are directing users to fraudulent websites that attempt to steal their banking details.

Fort Lauderdale staff members said they found fake QR code stickers during routine checks.

Police are urging people to pay only through official parking meters or by using the authorized payment app listed on city signs, not by scanning any stickers.

What to Look For:

  • Only scan QR codes that are clearly printed on official City signage — not on stickers.
  • Most parking locations use the “Pay By Phone” app, while only EV charging stations and the Arts & Science District Garage use the “ParkMobile” app.

Safe Payment Tips:

  • Use City Parking Meters – Pay directly at the meter or through the official mobile app, and avoid scanning QR codes on stickers. Fort Lauderdale does not use GooglePay QR codes.
  • Report Suspicious QR Codes – If you see a questionable QR code, report it to Fort Lauderdale officials by calling 954-828-8000, visiting fortlauderdale.gov/fixitftl, or using the FixItFTL app.
  • If You’ve Been Scammed – If you believe you’ve fallen victim to this scam, contact the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s non-emergency line at 954-764-4357.
