TAMARAC, Fla. – Broward County deputies have arrested a man a little more than a month after they said his 6-year-old nephew accidentally shot and killed himself after grabbing an unsecured gun.
Carika Hall, 25, was watching Odaine Hall on Sept. 30 when the boy got hold of the gun and shot himself once at Carika Hall’s home in the 5600 block of Rock Island Road, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrested Carika Hall on Wednesday on charges of culpable negligence and child neglect.
“BSO implores gun owners to properly secure their firearms and practice essential gun safety tips,” a BSO news release states. “A firearm should always be unloaded and stored in a locked storage container that isn’t easily accessible to minors. Doing so protects children and adults by preventing unintentional shootings and incidents like this one.”
He was released from the BSO Main Jail on a $10,000 bond Thursday night, but had nothing to say as he exited the facility.
