MIAMI – The man suspected in the shooting death of popular Cuban reggaeton musician El Taiger is behind bars in South Florida after being arrested in New York.
Damian Valdez Galloso was in court Thursday morning, facing a judge on charges related to the death of El Taiger, whose real name is Jose Manuel Zaldivar.
On Wednesday, as detectives walked Galloso into jail, he didn’t react when asked if he was guilty.
Police took Galloso into custody in New York City earlier in the week, He was later flown to Miami and seen arriving at Miami International Airport on Wednesday.
Last month, El Taiger was found shot in the back of an SUV near Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. After spending several days on life support, he later died.
Miami-Dade police also served a search warrant at a home in Hialeah in relation to the murder case.
Cell phone video from a neighbor showed police investigating at the home.
It’s still not clear at this point what the motive for the murder may have been.
Galloso was not granted bond, so he will remain behind bars as he awaits trial.
