MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The public corruption trial of former Miami-Dade Commissioner Joe Martinez continued Monday with a security company owner on the stand.
Martinez, arrested in 2022, is accused of accepting a $15,000 bribe in exchange for using his position to help a supermarket owner with code enforcement fines. He was charged with unlawful compensation and conspiracy.
Edward Heflin of Centurion Security employed Martinez while he was on the commission.
He testified that Centurion was financially struggling and Martinez sought a bank loan from the supermarket owner to cover unpaid wages.
