Police: Mechanic reports killing upset costumer wielding machete in Hialeah

HIALEAH, Fla. – A dispute between a 36-year-old driver and a 29-year-old man who was working for a mobile tire repair service ended in a fatal shooting on Saturday in Hialeah, police said.

According to Lt. Eddie Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Hialeah Police Department, Michel Lope Montes de Oca accused Brandon Hurst of installing a used tire instead of a new one.

According to Rodriguez, Hurst told police officers Montes de Oca was so upset that he threatened him with a machete in the area of West Second Avenue and 29 Street.

Hurst reported when Montes de Oca charged at him with the machete he grabbed a gun and defended himself. According to Rodriguez, Hurst fired several times and Montes de Oca died.
