DANIA BEACH. Fla. – Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating after they said a man’s body was found floating in a Dania Beach canal Friday morning.
BSO officials responded around 11 a.m., arriving with a boat to access the canal, located off Southwest 43rd Terrace, north of Griffin Road.
Although the scene has since been cleared, authorities spent significant time examining the area.
Sky 10 flew over the scene showing the body floating across a dock, partially clothed in colorful underwear and dark pants but without a shirt.
Dive teams entered the canal to retrieve the body, which was later covered and pulled ashore. Investigators photographed the scene before the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office transported the body.
A resident living near the canal, who asked not to be shown on camera, explained that Department of Public Works employees were the first to spot the body while clearing debris.
“At first, from what I understand, they thought it was a mannequin, but then they did a little more investigating and realized it was a body, so they called the sheriff’s department.”
At this time, there’s no information on the man’s identity, how he may have died, or how long his body had been in the water.
The investigation is ongoing and no other details have been released at this time.
