Fabian Camero, the 28-year-old son of MDFR firefighter Francisco Camero, was critically injured during the exercise and died a day later after being rushed to the hospital.
A Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesperson confirmed that Francisco Camero, Rafael Fernandez, and Steven Colon resigned effective Wednesday, Oct. 30, as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the exercise remains ongoing.
Investigators confirmed that MDFR used a helicopter to airlift Camero to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where he was later pronounced dead. A Local 10 News source said the training was part of a fellowship program, which took place at a building at 6596 NW 36th St., near the Miami International Airport.
MDFR was conducting the training with international firefighters.
Authorities said Fabian Camero worked for a private ambulance company, but his death was unrelated to his employment there.
Investigators still haven’t said what he was doing at the training.
A GoFundMe page set up to assist Camero’s family during their time of need has more than doubled its $35,000 initial goal.
