Caro said the driver was heading west on Oakland Park Boulevard in a white 2017 Chevrolet Malibu when the car struck Brudienell Kelly, who was walking from south to north in or near the crosswalk.
“The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the Chevrolet Malibu struck Kelly with the front right side of the vehicle causing the pedestrian to be projected in a northwesterly direction,” Caro said in a news release issued Friday. “The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu fled the scene without stopping or rendering aid leaving behind vehicle debris on scene. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported Kelly to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”
Caro confirmed that detectives found the car that struck Kelly in a parking lot with damage consistent with the crash, but the driver has not been found or identified.
