MIAMI – A fire erupted early Wednesday morning on the roof of a four-story apartment building in Miami, authorities confirmed.

He said crews arrived at the scene and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the garden-style building.

“Firefighter(s) extended hose lines and made entry into the structure for an aggressive fire attack,” Sanchez said in an email to Local 10 News. “Roof operations were initiated by raising ladder devices to gain access and extinguish the fire. Simultaneously, other crews assisted with evacuating residents and searching for any occupants that may have remained in their units.”

Sanchez confirmed that the fire was under control within 20 minutes and all residents were safely evacuated from the building.

He said it was determined that the fire was contained to roofing material that had been left overnight on the roof.

No structural damage occurred to the building or units.

Sanchez said the residents will be allowed back inside once the scene is cleared.

No injuries were reported.
