TGI Fridays on Miami Beach; nearly 50 other locations shut down amid bankruptcy talks, according to report

Some big corporate names are on the governments list of 650,000 recipients of coronavirus relief loans despite the controversy that prompted other high-profile businesses to return billions of dollars in loan. TGI Friday's said the forced shutdowns left it with no more than 20% of its revenue, and that the loans allowed it to rehire furloughed staffers. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. ā€“ TGI Fridays on Miami Beach has closed its doors abruptly after talks of a bankruptcy filing for the restaurant chain, according to reports.

Bloomberg reported talk of navigating Chapter 11 bankruptcy procedures in mid-October.

Workers of the restaurant reached out to Local 10 News to say more than 30 employees were not informed of the closure before many were expected to start their shifts last week.

Earlier this year, the restaurant chain with locations all over the country, announced the closure of at least 36 underperforming restaurants.

According to a media release, the company said it would offer more than 1,000 transfer opportunities, which represents over 80% of total impacted employees.

ā€œAs we continue along our path of transformation to revitalize the Fridays brand and implement a long-term growth strategy, we see a bright future for TGI Fridays,ā€ shared Weldon Spangler, CEO of TGI Fridays.

Florida restaurants in Royal Palm Beach and Ormond Beach closed earlier this year.
