POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A pawn shop owner in Broward County was arrested last week on accusations that he was dealing in stolen property at his business.

According to jail records, Ronald Plavnicky, 58, owner of A-One Pawnbroker in Pompano Beach, was arrested Thursday on charges of dealing in stolen property and violating Florida’s Pawnbroking Act.

An arrest warrant states that Plavnicky purchased numerous stolen items at his store “substantially below the fair market value,” which he should have known were stolen as some of the items still had “theft deterrent spider wires still attached.”

According to detectives, some of the stolen items included a Goodyear air compressor, a Shark vacuum, a Bose speaker and a baby sleep monitor.

The arrest warrant states that an undercover detective from the Broward Sheriff’s Office conducted several transactions with Plavnicky during the course of the investigation.

According to the warrant, on Sept. 27, Plavnicky told the undercover detective that he need two toilets and asked if he could get them for him if he gave the detective the model number from Home Depot.

Authorities said Plavnicky then provided the undercover detective with tips on how to get away with stealing the merchandise, instructing him to wear a red shirt to the store and have a black one in the car to change into after the theft.

A probable cause affidavit states that in June 2022, Plavnicky was told by BSO that he needed to report pawn transactions to the agency and was given alternative methods to do so, but as of Oct. 23, “Plavnicky has failed to report any daily report to the Sheriff’s Office.”

As of Monday morning, Plavnicky was no longer appearing in the jail database.
