MIRAMAR, Fla. ā Police officers responded to a report of a shooter with a long rifle and were searching for him on Friday in Miramar.
Police officers used marked patrol cars to close the westbound lanes of Miramar Parkway, west of the Florida Turnpike.
The Miramar Police Department also set up a temporary command post at Arcadia Drive and Miramar Parkway.
Residents said they heard gunfire ring out just feet from their front doors.
āI heard a car coming to a screeching halt and then I heard several gunshots,ā witness Corey Welch said. āI was concerned for my safety and the safety of the people around here.ā
MPD Chief Delrish Moss said his officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the area and learned that the gunman had confronted a woman living at one of the homes.
āWe make contact with a lady who says a guy just came to her door and asked for the kids,ā Moss said. āShe didnāt know who he was. She closed the door and he fired several rounds into the air.ā
Police said the gunman took off in an SUV before bailing out and running behind homes, where he too was shot at by a homeowner.
āHe disappears into one of the yards and he exchanges rounds with a homeowner who actually sees a guy with a gun in his backyard,ā Moss said.
No one was hurt, but the search continued for the gunman Friday evening.
āWe have the bad guyās car,ā Moss said. āWe are still looking for him.ā
