MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 72-year-old man who owns a tire shop in northwest Miami-Dade was arrested Thursday after he tried to bribe a county inspector who fined him, authorities said.

According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Police Department, the inspector visited Villaman Tires, located at 4757 NW 183rd St., on Thursday and issued the business owner, Jose Ines Villaman, a citation for having an expired business license, which totaled $500.

Police said after receiving the citation, Villaman asked the inspector to follow him and led him to his office, away from public view.

Villaman then took out an unknown amount of money and tried to give it to the inspector, authorities said.

Police said Villaman repeatedly tried to persuade the inspector to take the money, but he refused.

The inspector then left the business and notified his supervisor that Villaman had attempted to bribe him, the report stated.

Villaman allegedly provided a statement to detectives about the incident, but his statement was redacted from the publicly released report.

As of Friday afternoon, Villaman remained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was being held on a $5,000 bond.
