Halloween heist: Ghoulish thief swipes decorations from Hollywood homes

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Residents of a Hollywood neighborhood are peeved that a ghoulish thief is stealing their Halloween decorations.

Their home surveillance cameras caught the perp in action.

“We decorate not for ourselves but we decorate for the kids that come by,” resident Joe Pierce said. “This neighborhood is loaded with children, and they come by and they love what we do.”

Pierce is his latest victim.

“We got a good visual of him,” he said.

He described the gargoyles, tombstones, headstones, witch decorations and wreaths stolen by the man.

Security cameras recorded the thief prowling, taking what’s not his. He was last seen around 4 a.m. near South 44th Avenue and Jackson Street. Neighbors say he’s hit multiple homes.

“I don’t know what he’s planning on doing with them,” neighbor Caitlin Thurber said.

Neighbor Lisa Thurber added, “It’s also just such a violation of privacy.”

Residents said they’ve called police on the man.

“You’re stealing the kids’ fun,” Lisa Thurber said.

Pierce asked, “Why do you have to do that? I mean, why do you have to come at four in the morning from somebody else who is trying to make happiness for other people?”

Residents are asking anyone with information to call Hollywood police.
