MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A man was shot early Thursday morning behind a Miami Gardens supermarket, prompting a police investigation that led to the arrest of a 27-year-old woman, authorities confirmed Friday.
Miami Gardens police said officers responded to a call around 4:10 a.m. after receiving reports of a man being shot at the rear parking lot of the Winn-Dixie at 17221 NW 27th Ave.

The victim, who has not been identified, was found with gunshot wounds to his head and left shoulder, according to investigators. He told officers that after being shot, he saw a woman, identified as Amber Tia Griffin, running away.
A witness, who was sleeping nearby, reported hearing four gunshots at approximately 4 a.m. before rushing to the victim’s side, the report stated.
Police said the victim, who was bleeding from his head and upper body, pleaded for help. The witness called the victim’s girlfriend, who immediately called 911.
Authorities said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived shortly after and provided medical aid. The victim was airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
During their investigation, police said they reviewed surveillance footage from the Winn-Dixie which captured Griffin near the scene of the shooting.
The surveillance footage showed Griffin, known to both the victim and witness, riding a bicycle behind the store and later returning on foot, wearing the same gray or tan sweater and dark pants described by the victim, according to investigators.
Police said additional footage also showed her holding a handgun and approaching the victim moments before the shooting.
Police said Griffin was apprehended later that day around 3:40 p.m. near the 17000 block of Northwest 27th Avenue. They said she had been riding the same bicycle seen in the surveillance footage.
According to police, Griffin was on probation and had met with her probation officer less than 24 hours before the shooting, wearing the same clothes captured in the surveillance video.
State corrections records show she was convicted of shooting or throwing a deadly missile in 2023 and her probation was set to expire July.
The suspect was interviewed by Miami Gardens detectives and, after being read her Miranda rights, provided a confession, which was redacted in the publicly released report.
They have not yet disclosed what led to the shooting but confirmed that the victim and Griffin have known each other for years.
Griffin’s arrest report states that she is facing one count of attempted murder causing injury with a firearm.
Jail records listed her as being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Friday morning. Her bond hadn’t yet been set.
