October supermoon king tide: Coastal flood advisory in effect until Sunday night in South Florida

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Strong waves and coastal flooding eroded the beach in the coastal city of Hollywood. Sand pushed against the sea wall, onto homes, and across the historic Hollywood Beach Broadwalk.

Ocean water also pushed inland into inlets, canals, and the Intracoastal Waterway. To help prevent flooding, officials asked residents to volunteer to clean up a catch basin or storm drain.

“This is mother nature ... You cannot fight with it,” said Franco Lopez, a Hollywood Beach resident.

5 p.m. report:

With the October supermoon king tide, meteorologists issued a coastal flood advisory through 8 p.m., Sunday in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties.

There were dangerous swimming and surfing conditions.

A rip current advisory was in effect through Sunday evening in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Broward also has a high surf advisory until 2 p.m., Saturday.

The next high tide in South Florida is at 10:25 p.m., on Friday night and is set to last about three hours.
