MIAMI – A Canadian fugitive captured by federal agents in California in August was back in South Florida to face charges in a 2023 triple shooting at a Miami Beach nightclub that left a man dead.

Deshawn Davis, 36, of Toronto, was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a first-degree murder charge Wednesday evening.

Davis, described in a Miami Beach Police Department arrest warrant as a “rapper and performer” who uses the stage name “Thorobread,” is accused of killing 37-year-old fellow rapper Lowell “Lo” Grissom. Two women were hurt in the shooting.

Davis was not only wanted in South Florida at the time of his arrest in Redway, California; Canadian authorities were seeking him in connection with a 2022 kidnapping in a lakefront community in Ontario.

The Miami Beach shooting happened just before 4 a.m. on May 7, 2023 at the GALA Miami nightclub at 235 23rd St.

In the warrant, a MBPD detective said Davis was seen on club surveillance video “clearly following” Grissom as he walked around the club.

Authorities said after the shooting, Davis was picked up in a silver Mercedes-Benz driven by Guerby Francois, 38, of Lauderhill.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies located Francois six days after the shooting and placed him into custody after he provided them with a false name, the warrant states. The false-identity case remained active in Broward County court as of Thursday, records show.

Authorities said WhatsApp messages showed Francois communicated with Davis, saved in his phone as “Thoro Bread Nu 27.”

A few minutes after the shooting, Davis texted Francois “wtf u at,” short for “where the f--- you at.”

While the arrest warrant doesn’t outline a specific motive, federal agents said following Davis’ August arrest, they “believe the murder was a targeted attack with a gang nexus.”

In the 2022 kidnapping case, Ontario Provincial Police charged Davis with involvement in the Jan. 12, 2022 kidnapping of a woman named Elnaz Hajtamiri.

Hajtamiri was taken from a relative’s house in Wasaga Beach, Ontario to an SUV before disappearing and has not yet been found. Hajtamiri’s ex-boyfriend was charged with her presumed murder.

Davis remained held at TGK without bond as of Thursday afternoon.
