911 calls released following deadly shooting at Pompano Beach gas station

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. ā€“ Authorities on Wednesday released 911 calls that came from a fatal shooting at a Pompano Beach gas station over the weekend.

The shooting happened just before 5 p.m. Sunday at the RaceTrac at 599 W. Atlantic Blvd.

According to police, 37-year-old Brian Semil tried to carjack a mother and her children; they said three men intervened and one of them opened fire.

The emergency calls revealed the chaos and danger as the situation unfolded.

ā€œHeā€™s over here trying to get in peopleā€™s cars,ā€ one caller said.

ā€œThereā€™s another man here too, with his firearm pointed at him as well,ā€ said another.

Several people outside and inside the gas station desperately called for help.

In Spanish, a woman called saying she was with her children and her mother about to pump gas.

She said thatā€™s when a man tried forcing himself into her vehicle.

Thatā€™s when the men stepped in to help, with one of them shooting Semil, authorities said.

ā€œThereā€™s a lady doing CPR on him right now,ā€ one of the callers stated.

Records show that in 2015, Semil went to prison for a Fort Lauderdale carjacking that led to a police chase.

Local 10 News has spoken with his mother, who said that back in the day, he was dealing with substance abuse problems. She said he got clean, but may have relapsed and she just wishes her son hadnā€™t been killed.
