‘It was like a machine gun’: Police investigate after teen shot in southwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Police are investigating a shooting that they say injured a teenager in southwest Miami-Dade.

It happened on Tuesday night in the area of the Cutler Manor Apartments along the 10000 block of Southwest 216th Street.

According to police, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert and found a 17-year-old male who had been shot.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and rushed the teen to Jackson South Medical Center in stable condition, authorities said.

By Wednesday, over 20 bullet holes were visible in a metal fence, and two cars were found shot up. One of the vehicles appeared to have been hit more than 10 times.

Neighbors say shootings are all too common in the area.

“More than 30. I would say it was like a machine gun,” said one resident, describing the barrage of gunfire.

Another woman, whose apartment window was struck by a bullet, said she heard the shots and hit the floor for safety.

“When I heard the gunshots, I jumped up. I ended up hurting my side trying to get down,” she said.

Both women shared their frustrations about the shootings and the difficulty of relocating due to high housing costs.

Detectives arrived later to collect shell casings, but no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.

Police did not disclose the teenager’s identity but confirmed he remains in stable condition as of Wednesday evening.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 304-471-8477.
