POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with a shooting that injured two people near Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach earlier this month, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
The incident unfolded on Oct. 5, while a football game was taking place at the school, but deputies have confirmed that the shooting occurred nearby and was not related to the event.

Authorities said BSO deputies from the Pompano Beach District were at the game when they received reports of shots fired around 9:44 p.m.
Deputies quickly established a perimeter around the area and discovered one victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
The injured individual was treated at the scene by deputies, who they said administered life-saving measures before emergency personnel transported the victim to a local hospital. The injuries were deemed non-life-threatening, according to investigators.
Shortly after, detectives confirmed that Lauderhill Fire Rescue had also transported a second victim, identified as Chris Williams, to another local hospital. Williams was suffering from a gunshot wound, but his injuries were also listed as non-life-threatening.
BSO’s Violent Crimes Unit launched an investigation into the shooting, ultimately determining that the incident occurred near the school but had no connection to the football game or the school itself.
Detectives said with the help of a Broward Crime Stoppers tip, they identified the teen suspect as Nicolas Yves Achille, of Fort Lauderdale.
On Oct. 11, investigators from the BSO’s VIPER — short for Violent Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response —, along with the Fort Lauderdale Gun Intelligence Unit, executed an arrest warrant in Fort Lauderdale.
Deputies said Achille was taken into custody without incident and processed at the Juvenile Assessment Center. He now faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder for his role in the shooting, according to jail records.
