‘He was the best’: Mother mourns son killed in Pompano Beach hit-and-run, hopes for arrest

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A mother is mourning her son after Broward deputies say he was hit by a car over the weekend in Pompano Beach. Investigators say the driver fled the scene and never stopped to help.

It happened around 4:15 Sunday morning along the 1700 block of North Dixie Highway. Deputies identified the victim as 43-year-old Don Larkin.

“He was the best and a good guy,” his mother, Annie Larkin, said. “You know you hit a person so the least you can do is stop and see what happened.”

Annie Larkin said a recent injury left her son restless, leading him to go out for a walk in the wee hours of the morning.

His body was found in the middle of the road. Annie Larkin learned her son was dead when detectives arrived at her door.

Deputies found car parts that they believe belonged to the suspect vehicle. They believe it’s a 2008 to 2013 Nissan Rogue.

As Larkin’s family finalizes funeral arrangements, they’re hoping deputies can make an arrest in the case.

“Let someone know so I can rest in peace like my son is now,” Annie Larkin said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
