MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A mother of a child with special needs, who formerly served as an armed security guard at Pinecrest Preparatory Middle School, was arrested Wednesday after Miami-Dade Schools Police said that she made threatening remarks toward the school staff.

Witnesses stated that 48-year-old Yudelca Perez Reyes expressed her anger over her son’s alleged mistreatment by school employees, making alarming and violent statements during a meeting at the Miami-Dade Schools annex building, according to an arrest report obtained Friday by Local 10 News.

During the meeting, Perez Reyes became increasingly upset and loudly declared, “If my child hurts himself, I will shoot and kill the school principal and staff at Pinecrest Preparatory Middle School. She’s wrong; she can’t do that. If she does, I will shoot her,” the report stated.

As a result of the allegations, school officials forced her to withdraw her son and terminated her role as an armed school guardian from Pinecrest Preparatory Middle School, investigators said.

Police reported that Perez Reyes consented to a search of her home, including access to her gun safe, and voluntarily relinquished her firearm as evidence.

No injuries were reported in the alleged incident.

Jail records show Perez Reyes is facing one count of threatening to throw or place a bomb or destructive device.

As of Friday, she was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where her bond had not yet been determined.

Police did not disclose details about the mistreatment allegations Perez Reyes made about school staff members.
