Opa-locka residents drown in high Miami-Dade water bills

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Residents in Opa Locka reported they were wrongly billed thousands of dollars for water they didn’t use, and it has been happening for months.

A bill started at about $1,400. It went up $400 more and was at $9,062. Lizbel Vazquez and Jani Russell were among the residents who wanted answers from the Miami-Dade County Water & Sewer Department.

A spokesperson for the agency said they are working with each customer so they don’t have to pay outrageous amounts, as crews work to find the cause of the problem.
