MIAMI – A Miami man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and threatened to take her life back in July, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

According to an arrest report from the Miami Police Department, the altercation began on July 31, when 29-year-old Christopher Gonzalez accused his girlfriend of cheating, leading to a brutal attack that left the victim fearing for her life.

The victim told police she had just returned home from work and was closing her front door when Gonzalez, with whom she had ended a brief two-week relationship, forced his way inside the apartment, according to the report.

Fearing for her safety, police said the woman ran into the bathroom and locked the door. However, the man allegedly kicked it down, cornering her in the bathroom and launching a violent attack, the report stated.

During the assault, authorities said the man reportedly punched the woman multiple times across her face and body.

As she fell into the shower, the situation escalated further. According to the victim, the suspect demanded a knife and told her, “Your life will end tonight. You’re not going to see your kids anymore. Who are you f------?”

Police said the violence momentarily ceased when Gonzalez walked to the living room and said to the victim, “Why did I hit you? This is domestic violence. I’m going to jail for a long time.”

Fearing more violence, the victim complied when police said Gonzalez ordered her to get into his vehicle. He then drove them to the Presidente Supermarket, located on Southwest 19th Avenue and Southwest Eighth Street.

Once there, authorities said the victim, seeking a chance to escape, asked Gonzalez to get ice for her injuries.

But as soon as he entered the supermarket, the victim fled, calling for an Uber and making her way to her sister’s house to find safety, according to police.

Investigators said the victim later sought medical attention and was treated for her injuries, which included a laceration that required stitches.

Jail records show Gonzalez is facing one count each of burglary with assault or battery, kidnapping, assault with domestic violence and a separate charge of battery.

As of Wednesday, he is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond had not yet been determined.
